Not a good buy. The unit I have overheats severely and when it does - drops connections.
[.].I now have overlapping 2.4Ghz broadcasts and a 5Ghz signal close to where my notebook computer is. I initially purchased this router to replace my Linksys WRT-350N. (I have a slow Linkstation NAS) The data transfer rates I get when moving files to my NAS are equivalent on the 5Ghz and a wired 1gigabit LAN. The 2.4Ghz signals on the WRT610N were stronger than the WRT350N. However my notebook with Intel 4965AGN would not connect to the 5Ghz band from approx 75 feet and two walls away.
500 Ghz for (new) laptop; 2.4 Ghz for other devices (PC and Xbox 360).Range may be slightly limited but quite satisfactory. So far, no problems with Vista x64. Beats my old router that cuts out every few hours. For especially new PCs (or laptops) this router seems to have the performance desired. Web pages load faster than any I've experienced before.Concerned with set-up, I called tech support and they had it running in about 15 minutes.
IMPORTANT : MY LAPTOP HAS INBUILT N ADAPTER FROM DELL.I havent used the usb port to connect the hard drive so I dont have anything to say about it right now. [.].Now my router not only gives me the extra range but also excellent speeds at the further end of the house were I never used to get a steady signal. To get the full potential from this router go to the linksys link that I am adding right here.
Going through the reviews of these routers i had feelihg that linksys wrt610n and Dlink dir 655 are the best, but I narrowed down to linksys Wrt610n because it was more advanced even though there were a lot of critical reviews of its performance. But the range was bad and the speeds were low. To everyone looking for an upgrade from wireless G to wireless N router and also for people who badly need a little extra coverage of wireless signal, I had both the problems and I was going through different routers particularly linksys wrt160n, wrt320n and wrt610n & D link dir 655.
Probably this is the reason for most of the bad reviews. Hope you will find my review and particularly the linksys link useful. After recieving the package from amazon all I had to do was insert the cd that came with the package and the router was installed in 15 mins and working, abort the installation of LELA or if you Install it dont use it.
It might be a bit confusing and it is not required to use the router.
My only complaint about the router is I am not able to see the IP addresses of connected devices via its Web interface. I'm using this router for my home network with Brighthouse Tampa as my ISP. For me I would rather be able to view this information from the router's Web interface so that I can arrange port forwarding from time to time. Instead I had to install a software product from Linksys called the EasyLink Advisor which does present a nice network map of connection devices. I did need to update the router's Firmware to version 1.00.02 B10 for it to reliably hold wireless connections to my Windows XP based laptops. Other than this its performance has been quite good.
